Rea Vaya’s third goes off without major hitches Passenger statistics for first two days released
Rea Vaya’s third day of operations was marked by increased security, with services continuing to run normally.
“Despite the unacceptable incident that took place last night, Rea Vaya’s services continued today without disruption,” says Rehana Moosajee, the City’s MMC for Transportation.
Moosajee explains that passenger waiting time increased at certain stations between 6:20 and 7:00 as some Rea Vaya bus drivers were cautious to travel to the depot before dawn due to the shooting incident last night.
“In certain circumstances such as with the taxi strike on Monday and with the driver anxiety experienced this morning, it is difficult to keep to the set timetable. This is particularly disruptive to the CBD circle routes as first priority is given to the trunk route services to ensure that loyal and supportive passengers arrive at work on time.
“We anticipate that these disruptions will settle down when actions against the BRT operations subside. The Rea Vaya services will remain operating as close to the set time tables as possible under these extraordinary circumstances,” says Moosajee.
She adds that the City has received the passenger statistics for the first two days of operation.
“On day one, Rea Vaya transported 16 800 passengers on 171 trips and covered 9405kms. The second day saw Rea Vaya transporting 7700 passengers over 8400kms on 153 trips,” she says. |
