 Rea Vaya construction is taking place along Empire Road between Jan Smuts Avenue and the intersection of Joubert and Sam Hancock streets.

Working on building a station
Scope of works – This section is 1.3 km long. The detailed scope of work also includes construction of the dedicated BRT bus lanes, relocation of services running along the bus lanes and the resurfacing of mixed traffic lanes, street lighting, construction of a station platform and paving of sidewalks. The one BRT stations along the route will be executed under a separate contract.
Construction progress – contractor is currently busy with:
- relocation of electrical services
- 110mmw water pipe line relocation
- retaining wall at Helpmekaar
- road widening along Empire
Traffic accommodation – two lanes will opened to traffic throughout construction process no road closures are anticipated. Construction of major intersections will be undertaken over weekends. |
