Work is underway upgrading the Rissik-Harrison streets section of the Rea Vaya Inner City Distribution System.
INFORMATION on the project as of 9 February 2011.
Scope of works – The Rissik/ Harrison section of the BRT upgrade is bordered by Smit Street on the north and Commissioner Street on the southern end for the Rissik section. The Harrison Section is bounded by Plein Street and Commissioner Streets on the north and south ends respectively. It will entail the upgrade of two of the existing mixed traffic lanes for the exclusive use by BRT buses on the section between Smit and Plein streets and a single BRT lane along Rissik Street & Harrison street on the section between Plein and Commissioner Streets. Three stations will be contructed on this section.
Construction progress – contractor is busy with service relocation.

Traffic accommodation – two lanes will opened to traffic throughout construction process. The following road space has been taken from mixed traffic lanes:
- Rissik Street - Start of the bridge to Wolmarans - Far left lane has been closed and will only be opened to traffic in May 2011.
- Rissik Street – From Prichard street to Jeppe – Left and far left lanes has been closed and will only be opened to traffic in April 2011.
- Harrison Street – From Jeppe to Prichard Street - Left and far left lanes has been closed and will only be opened to traffic in May 2011
