Going to the game on Saturday to watch Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates battle it out? Take a Rea Vaya bus and get there ready for the fun.
A CLASH between the two Soweto football giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, is always a big deal that attracts huge crowds. The match this weekend promises to be just such an occasion.
Fans heading for the encounter need not worry about heavy traffic to the stadium – Rea Vaya is at their service. Special services will be put in place to transport supporters to and from the stadium for the much-anticipated Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday, 28 July at FNB Stadium on our normal services. Kickoff is at 7.30pm.
For fans departing from the inner-city, the first additional bus is expected to leave Ellis Park Station at 3pm and the last one at 7.15 pm. In Soweto, the first bus will depart from Thokoza Park Station at 2pm and the last one at 7.15pm.
Estimated trips from the furthest point in both directions should take about 25 minutes on Rea Vaya.
At the stations, Johannesburg Metro Police and the South African Police will marshal the crowds to avoid stampedes and keep passenger traffic flowing smoothly. Officers will also direct traffic to ensure that buses are not delayed.
At FNB Stadium Station, spectators will be directed where to go. Here they will be serviced by 2 station ambassadors, 6 cashiers, 30 marshals and 20 security personnel. There will also be 3 management personnel on hand to assist.
After the game, which is expected to end about 9pm, the same procedure will be followed to ferry fans back home. In total, 15 buses will depart from Ellis Park Station and Thokoza Park station respectively.
