A family mourns its breadwinner with Executive Mayor Amos Masondo, who has vowed that a small group of disgruntled people will not stop Rea Vaya.
A SOMBRE Amos Masondo entered the small semi in White City, Soweto, on Tuesday, 4 May to pay his respects to the family of Phumlani Mayisela.

The executive mayor, accompanied by the portfolio head of transport, Rehana Moosajee, spent some private time with Mayisela's close family, among them his grandmother and fiancée, Paulina Fuso, and their 14-month-old daughter.
A group of women sat together quietly on the double bed mattress, the only furniture in the room but for a two-seater wooden bench reserved for the special visitors. A single-bar heater glowed on the concrete floor.
Fuso spoke about hearing the news, saying she was still in shock and couldn't believe what had happened. The little girl on her hip was more interested in touching Moosajee's colourful shirt, unaware of the drastic turn her young life had taken.
She described her fiancé as a dedicated family man who was devoted to his daughter. Mayisela, the family's breadwinner, had stopped after work to buy clothes for the toddler before taking a bus with some friends. "This was the first time he had caught a Rea Vaya bus," she said.

A clearly emotional Moosajee sat listening to the Mayisela family as they spoke of their loss, shaking her head in disbelief at the senseless killing. It was a terrible incident, she said. It was distressing that Mayisela had lost his life on the Rea Vaya system. "The City will not allow his death to be in vain," she added, while Masondo promised that "no small group of disgruntled individuals will deter people from using the [Rea Vaya] system".
After the visit to White City, the City of Johannesburg officials also stopped in at one of the passengers who had been injured in the Friday attacks.
Magdaline Makgare is in a serious but stable condition in the Lesedi Private Hospital. Despite her injury, she was able to share a brief smile with her visitors.
