The Park and Ride/Walk venues for the Soccer Wold Cup matches taking place at Soccer City and Ellis Park are filling up fast. Golf Reef Park and Ride is sold out and Wits is almost sold out.
Fans are advised to start making alternative arrangements to get to the matches. These include being dropped off at the Westgate Transportation Hub cnr of Pat Mbatha and Anderson Streets to the west of the CBD, where they can catch Rea Vaya BRT or Metrorail. Alternatively, fans can ustilise Metrorail from Park Station in the Johannesburg CBD and Pretoria Station in Pretoria.
Park and Ride/Walk venues will open at 9am. All public transport and park and ride/walks users are urged to leave early and remember to note where they are dropped off because it will be the same place as where they will get transport to pick them up. The City of Joburg has also printed pamphlets with maps which will be available at Park and Ride sites.
Fans using Park and Walks must plan their route to Soccer City carefully. The Shareworld Park and Walk ticket holders must use the N1 South and take the new N17 off ramp. The entrance to the Aeroton Park and Walk is on Adcock Ingram Road, which can be accessed from Nasrec Road if you are using the M1 South and Columbine Avenue if you are using the M1 North. Rand Show Park and Walk can be accessed from M1 S and M1 N, Nasrec Road off ramps.
Fans are urged to ensure that use the correct directions as road closures will make it impossible to get from one side to the other side of the stadium precinct. And fans with no parking tickets will be turned back.
For those not going to the match tomorrow, they are reminded that there are numerous road closures in operation for the opening game including Soweto Highway and Nasrec Road.
For Rea Vaya BRT users, the Rea Vaya will operate normally in the morning but the feeder routes will stop operating at 11 am. For the rest of the day, an event service will operate to and from Soccer City only.
In respect of the match at Ellis Park on 12th June, residents around Ellis Park are reminded that Joe Slovo Drive will be closed from 9am to 10pm on 12 June 2010.
Fans are also reminded to pre-buy tickets to the Bez Valley, Wits, Constitutional Hill and Gold Reef Park and Ride venues, as well as the Athlone Boys Park and Walk venue. No drops-offs will be allowed at the stadium or Park and Rides/Walks and cars parked in undesignated areas may not be safe and could be towed away.
Only 40% of parking tickets for the Saturday Ellis Park match were sold by noon today. The COJ urges people to purchase their parking tickets at Computicket or www.ticketbreak.co.za.
