Rea Vaya would like to confirm that buses are running normally this morning. Negotiations with representatives of the station employees will continue.
REA Vaya services were disrupted yesterday, 20th September, as well as during the morning peak on 21st September 2010 after staff at the stations embarked upon an illegal work stoppage.
After the Metropolitan Trading Company (MTC), as the employer of the striking station staff, took action in line with the stipulations of the Labour Relations Act to compel employees to return to work, staff returned to work.
Services thus commenced again in time for the afternoon peak services from the CBD to Soweto and we are hopeful that services will be normalized as soon as possible.
Mr Alfred Sam, CEO of the Metro Trading Company said that the MTC reserves the right to take further disciplinary action against the workers that were involved in this illegal action. MTC management will also continue to engage the employees and their representatives to address the issues which led to this illegal work stoppage.
The MTC and Rea Vaya would once again like to apologise to the commuters for the inconvenience suffered due to this illegal strike action by station staff. |
